Pam Iorio (born in Waterville, Maine) is the 57th and current mayor of Tampa, Florida. She moved with her family to Temple Terrace as an infant and also attended school in Temple Terrace. She is the second female (Sandy Freedman was first) Mayor of Tampa.
She is one of the most popular Mayors in modern history. In her second term now, she has renovated the downtown area and is an advocate for the underprivileged citizens of the city. Mayor Iorio is also a big supporter of the arts, and she wishes to make Tampa a major arts center in the South. Iorio has also been credited with a sharp drop in drug trafficking in the city limits.
Her passion now is pushing for light rail mass transit system for the city. This was her vision long before gas prices jumped over $4.00 per gallon! At the young age of 26, Pam was the youngest person ever elected to (in 1985) the Hillsborough County Commission.
I met Pam when she was in her second term as County Commissioner when I sold her home in Carrollwood (Tampa) and moved her to Lake Magdalene Manors. At that time, she was elected Supervisor of Elections for Hillsborough County. In the 2000 Presidential Election (Bush / Gore) Pam oversaw the famous recount (hanging chads) for Tampa! When she was Supervisor of Elections, she moved (I sold her home in Lake Magdalene Manors) from the County to the City. She surprised everyone by resigning her position and making a late run for Mayor! She wins in a landslide!
While she was Supervisor of Elections she earned her bachelor's degree from American University and then obtained her Master's at the University of South Florida, One day, it will be Governor Iorio or President Iorio! She has my vote!
I'm proud to know Pam and her husband Mark and I am proud to handle their real estate needs over the years.
